Here's an excerpt from one of his books:

    From Audacity of Hope:
I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.

And some of you think he should be president?

Since you've no doubt read the book, what's the context for that fragment, what does it refer to?

I was sent the excerpt. I'll read his books right about when I get around to reading Mein Kampf. I don't need to know the context. He is a race-card playing serpent, he is a muslim sympathizer. In case you have been asleep since 2001 we are at war with islam.

If I can slightly diverge here, but it pertains to a subject that is so near and dear to my heart...

A lot of people are geeking out over Jeremiah Wright's comments over the years, but I would like to address one in particular- that America is an "imperialist" nation.

And I'm reading a lot of commentary that Obama needs to distance himself from Wright's comments, including the statement about imperialism.

OK without addressing any of Wright's other charges, the bit about us being "imperialist" is absolutely 100% correct, of course, and anyone who feels otherwise obviously has no grasp of U.S. history. Look at a map of the colonies in 1787, look at a map of the U.S. today. Slight difference in size, wouldn't you say? Of course, there are those who presumably believe it was "manifest destiny."

The U.S. has been, and continues to be, an Empire Builder in every sense of the word. Now look, if you want to argue whether it's a good or bad thing, fine, there is a debate there. Wright is obviously assigning it a negative meaning, but there is another side to the story. But to argue that we're not an imperialist nation...I mean, like, get serious....

And I never said we were the greatest empire of all-time (that honor, of course, would go to the French empire of the early 19th century ). But we are an empire and have been for a long time.

Well, I can empathize with the native Hawaiians to a certain extent. Hawaii was its own country at one time and then here came the Yanks to take it over. But, at least when you make it a state, and you give the citizens there full rights (to vote, to have a voice in the Congress, etc.) then it's not really a "colony" anymore. That has always been my feeling on Puerto Rico; either make it a state, or let it go. And as for Washington, D.C., my thought there has always been that its residents should have to be considered citizens of either Maryland or Virginia (or some percentage of both). People who live in D.C. pay taxes, can be drafted into the military, have to sit on juries, etc. yet have no representation in the Senate (and limited representation in the House).

Bottom line is, Hawaii isn't going back, Alaska isn't being given back, that's just the way it is. And let's not kid ourselves- the middle and western U.S. was going to be conquered eventually. If the U.S. hadn't done so, somebody else (or maybe several nations) would have. So I'm not saying empire building is inherently right or wrong, I'm just saying we need to stop pretending it doesn't apply to us.

So you have no idea what the context for that quote fragment is and no interest in it, typical. As long as it reinforces wild preconceptions.

That photo of Obama was not taken during the pledge of allegiance as claimed. It was during the national anthem - hand placement is optional on that...

If we're at war with Islam, how come we haven't fired up our internment camps and shut down Mosques?

Lew, talk like that about Empire building is going to get you on the no-fly list.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Good point. We need an FDR in office and there isn't one to be found.
